Still getting started

Back at school. Can't believe how busy it has become already. Didn't have time to look at my computer the last 2 nights. Year 12 have their trials in week 3 and they suddenly are realising just how much help they need.

I have started my readings in free periods but am already worried that there are not enough hours in the day.

This year I have taken a number of Year 11 and 12 supervised study periods each week to make up my teaching load and what has become glaringly obvious to me is that students generally do not know how to study or research effectively or how to present their own work. (I am not sure that I will be able to either yet.)

So I have been realising that being a teacher librarian, whilst still being involved with books and engendering a love of reading, exploring and learning now more than ever involves using technology to make information available to both staff and students and teaching research skills. The librarian is no longer the lady (sorry for any sexist reference) behind the counter but is at the forefrount of learning throught the school. (I have none of the skills necessary to do this, so I am hoping that this course can transform me from a bookworm into a technological wiz.)

I read about Conflict resolution today and found the article affirmed work I have done with students with 'Peer Mediation'. Sometimes in reality with 15year olds the win win situation is difficult to find.

I relised today that everyone is putting their blog addresses in the forum so I will try to do this also. (Not overly confident as I have not yet figured out how to get this blog to have the correct date and time. Oh well.
